Response to Breakfast Topic: Where's the epic?

Part Two in my series of "Blog Posts I Never Finished" is about Wrath not being as "epic" as Vanilla.  In a nutshell, not in terms of having to work hard for your gear, but in terms of scope and storyline Wrath wins.  This one even has links!  Why didn't I finish it?  It's missing the transition paragraph, I generally don't write my paragraphs in order.  Here you go!

Superpowers for Good (and not for awesome)

WoW.com Breakfast Topic What intangible qualities do you bring to a raid?

My raid superpower is multitasking.  One of the things I've always been able to do, in gaming and in life, is step back and look at the overall picture, then focus down on what I need to do to meet that larger goal.  This usually requires me to queue three spells up in my head while I strafe left out of the fire and yell at the huntard for standing in said fire.  Here's how I got to the point where I can use my superpowers for good (and not for awesome).

Breakfast Topic: I Hate

You know what I hate the most in WoW? Stranglethorn Vale. I refuse, utterly REFUSE to quest there any more. Even now I can't run through there without getting attacked, even on my F'ING LVL 80 PRIEST! Stranglethorn Vale single handedly caused me to abandon my first priest because it was impossible in Vanilla.

Probably a strong #2 in things I hate about wow is that damn troll ziggurat in the Hinterlands, that you had to do to get the mallet of Zul'Farrak. It's not so bad now, but back in the day all the trolls were ELITES, so it was basically a 5-man instance, out in the world, with mobs on a fast respawn and quest items on a slow respawn, where Allies could come kill you and spit on your corpse. In fact the only redeeming quality of the Hinterlands is the abundance of leveling herbs.

I think I've talked about this recently. I forget where. Hmm.

No @*%&ing Swearing in Guild Chat!

I'm a fan of answering questions posed on other blogs. None of the WowInsider Breakfast Topics have caught my attention, but this question posted on World of Matticus did:

Is your guild vent dirty? As in rated R+?
This is a really funny question in my case. Every time I explain it to someone not in-guild, or someone new joining the guild, there's definite confusion.

- No swearing in /gchat. There's some debate over whether tv words like "crap" count.
- PG13+ in TeamSpeak, meaning the F-bomb is OK, as long as it's not every other word.

Whenever someone asks why no swearing in gchat, the only reason I can come up with is that it's tradition, and while TeamSpeak is optional, gchat is not. The whole PG13 thing is more a function of our guild being mostly people with families, but the realization that if you swear, it's difficult not to when you're frustrated and stressed.

And you know what? I like it that way. It's nice to have a haven in the game where you don't have to put up with people being nasty. If I really don't want to hear it, I just take the headphones off.

Breaking Stuff

Breakfast Topic: Are you leveling your Professions?

You better believe it, WowInsider. Then again, I've pretty much given the thumbs down to the Death Knight for the time being. It would be pretty rough leveling from 1 at level 55.

Zully is a Tailor/Enchanter like most healy type priests. That primal mooncloth/whitemend set was, and for the moment still is, the shizzle for raiding. And seeing as you don't have to 'gather' tailoring supplies so much as kill a bunch of humanoids, enchanting is the natural choice for getting rid of all those useless greens leveling tailoring produces. Tailoring is kind of like engineering in a way though, it costs more money than it makes because all the good stuff is boe, and the rest has pretty much no market. This applies even once max level is reached.

Enchanting for me is a huge money sink while leveling, but ends up paying for itself plus a little in the long run. Being able to disenchant greens has its upsides and downsides. Early on, greens are a great way to make a little extra cash either on the AH or as simple vendor trash. As an enchanter, I just break every green I find. At first, I thought I'd be able to sell the mats for profit like I used to do, but it looks like the market is a little dry right now. I think it's a combination of enchanters having plenty of greens to break to level and the lack of people seeking the new enchants. Until people start getting settled into their blues, pvp gear, and start raiding the enchants for sale market won't really take off again. So for now, free enchants for everyone!

Fishing is easy for me to level, because I'm a dork who likes to do it, and also I own almost every bit of pre-wrath fishing buff you can get, so it goes fast. First aid I just level to say I did it. I can't remember the last time I really used a band-aid with Zully and it actually helped. I may have used one or two in arenas, but usually by the time I remember about them it's too late. Cooking goes along with fishing, and being able to make good buff food is handy. I'm not a big fan of the "cooking award" system of buying recipes, but oh well.

I've been getting a lot of requests to disenchant stuff. I ought to start saying no, at least to strangers, unless they're offering a tip. It cuts into my profits!
